What is subconscious fear and how did it affect us?

Fear is one of the most basic human emotions. It involves a universal biochemical response as well as a high individual emotional response. Since infants, we are already equipped with the survival instincts necessary to respond with fear when we sense danger or feel unsafe.

Fear helps protect us. It alerts us to the presence of danger or the threat of harm, whether that danger is physical or psychological. It can be like a warning, a signal that cautions us to be careful.

On the other hand, fear cannot exist by itself. It is not an abstraction. An abstraction comes into being only when one runs away from fear into an idea or concept or activity. A mind that lives in fear is a dead mind, is a dull mind; it is a mind that cannot look, see, hear clearly, directly. So it is very important to understand one’s relationships with others, with society, with everything, and to be free of fear totally.

From the fear of heights to fear of embarrassment, we have all got our fears. However, some people are better at handling it than others.

While our conscious mind makes us aware of the happenings in our surroundings and processes information at the present moment, our subconscious mind is operating silently behind the scenes.

From childhood experiences to past memories, a lot is being processed below the level of conscious awareness. Since we are not mindful of these happenings, our emotions can be quite irrational.

Our fears also reside in the subconscious mind.

If you spend half an hour consciously, deliberately, to find out your fears, outwardly at least, you can easily stop them. But it is much more difficult to find out the subconscious fears, deep down within you, which have greater importance and which during your sleep become dreams.

What about modulating our own irrational fears and anxieties? Whether it is triggered by a tiger or a spider, fear, like any emotion, is underpinned by physical signals in the body. These include a stronger and more rapid heartbeat as well as changes in patterns of blood flow. Such bodily signals are critical to the experience of fear, even though they are usually registered subconsciously.

You should build yourself a faith system, a higher power relationship and become willing to accept that you are not alone. And when fear gets really gnarly, call on that power to relieve you of the burden.
