Our subconsicous mind is a remarkable and powerful force to be reckoned with. It’s an incredibly important secondary system running everything in humans life. Hence, understanding well and learning to control the subconscious mind has been a necessity to lead us to success, happiness, and riches.

What is subconscious mind?

It’s not uncommon to hear about conscious and unconscious types of actions when scientists talk about the brain. As a result, most of us are familiar with the idea that our behavior is less rational than we believe it to be.

Whether we like it or not, our ability to control thoughts, synchronize movements, or experience emotions depends on the depth of the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is a secondary mind system that regulates everything in our life. In psychological terms, we define subconscious as the part of our mind that is not currently in focal awareness. In simpler terms, it’s the barrier our mind makes because the brain is continually receiving information through our senses.

However, this barrier is not blocking everything. It stores the information in the brain for later retrieval. You may have heard the saying that our mind forgets nothing. The subconscious acts as a filter, so we’re not overloaded with stimuli from our environment.

Whether you are awake or asleep, your subconscious mind is recording and storing everything. Thanks to your stored memories, feelings, and desires, your subconscious plays a huge role in the creation of your dreams.

Communicating with your subconscious mind

Communicating thoughts from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind is difficult because it should be done with emotions. Only the thoughts that are conveyed with genuine emotions make it to the back of your mind. And only the thoughts that are backed up by a strong emotion stay there.

Unfortunately, this is true both for the negative and the positive emotions. And also, unfortunately, the negative emotions are usually stronger than the positive ones. Despite that fact, it’s not impossible to get access to a subconsicous mind and keep it positive. Learn how to do that by reading my other article here.

1. Practicing Positivity

This is the first and foremost method that I recommend because of its importance for each individual. You can practice positivity by:

  • Positive self-talk: Replace your negative self-talk with affirmations. Shifting your language will alter your mindset and override negative subconscious actions and thoughts. Replace “I can’t do this!” with “I can do this!” Instead of saying “I fail at everything!” exclaim “I will succeed!”
  • Visualization: Visualizing, or mentally rehearsing, the achievement of your goals is a wonderful way to engage with and train your subconscious mind. Start with visualization exercises that only require you to utilize one to two of your senses. Try to visualize every detail of a photograph or a familiar object. As you master this, work towards visualizing entire scenes of movies or memories. Note the sounds, smells, colors, textures, and tastes.

2. Practicing Mindful Meditation

Meditation will help you focus and harness your subconscious mind. Before meditating, determine the length of your session. Find a stable seat. Sit in a straight-backed chair with your feet planted firmly on the ground or cross-legged on top of a pillow on the floor. Close your eyes and begin to follow your breath. Focus on your inhale and exhale. As you relax, your mind will wander. Thoughts will flow from your subconscious mind to your conscious mind.

3. Practicing Stream of Consciousness Writing

Writing down your thoughts or journaling is an effective way to release stress and control your subconsicous mind. All you have to do are: Gather a pencil or pen and a pad of paper. Sit in a comfortable position and take a deep breath to center yourself. Start the timer and begin writing. Never approach stream of consciousness writing with an agenda but allow your thoughts to flow naturally from one to another. When the session is complete, read over your thoughts. Reflect upon your words. Identify recurring thoughts or odd phrases.
